Bio
David Lyons is a global fitness icon, National Fitness Hall of Fame Inductee, and U.S. Marine veteran with over 45 years of experience in the health and fitness industry. Known for his “mind over muscle” philosophy, he is widely respected for redefining human performance, longevity, and inclusive fitness through elite athletic experience and neurological training methods.
Following his diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis, he transformed his personal challenge into a global mission. Drawing on his background in Nutrition and an Honorary Doctorate in Health Sciences, he developed the OptimalBody Training System and the OptimalBody-OptimalMind program. These methodologies focus on the connection between the nervous system and muscle activation, showing how the body can adapt and be re-trained through science, discipline, and mindset.
He is the co-founder of the MS Fitness Challenge with his wife, Kendra Lyons, a global initiative dedicated to supporting individuals living with MS through specialised fitness training and mindset coaching. The program has reached communities worldwide and has been recognised by the National MS Society, including the Milestone Award.
David is also the creator and host of NBC Palm Springs’ “Weekend Workout” and the author of the award-winning documentary MS Fitness Challenge: The Journey, which highlights both his personal journey and the broader mission of inclusive fitness.
His contributions have been honoured with several prestigious awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Today, he continues to advocate for inclusive, science-backed approaches to fitness, bridging clinical understanding with high-performance training, and redefining what it means to build strength beyond physical limitations.
