Akuyoe Graham is an award-winning actor, interdisciplinary artist, author, educator, and humanitarian whose work explores the transformative power of discovering one’s authentic identity. Akuyoe’s own journey of self-discovery took her from British schoolgirl to aspiring New York socialite and, ultimately, back to her African heritage and deeper spiritual self. She brought that journey to life in her acclaimed autobiographical one-woman play, Spirit Awakening, embodying the pivotal characters who shaped her along the way. The work has inspired audiences to look beyond social masks and circumstances to rediscover their inherent worth and possibility.

That same philosophy became the foundation for Akuyoe’s work with incarcerated and underserved youth. As Founder and CEO of Spirit Awakening Foundation, she has spent more than 30 years helping young people heal from trauma, reclaim their authentic voices, and recognize their potential through creative expression, meditation, mentorship, and self-reflection. SAF’s Writes of Passage and Visual Arts programs have been presented in schools, juvenile halls, and probation facilities throughout Los Angeles County in partnership with major educational, arts, and justice agencies.

A former host for The Africa Channel, Akuyoe has interviewed global cultural figures including President John Dramani Mahama, author Chris Abani, and actor Akosua Busia. Her play and essays have been studied at Stanford, UC Berkeley, and USC, and she has spoken on TEDx stages in the United States and internationally. Akuyoe is also the author of the bestselling The Little Book of Transformation: 7 Days to a Brand New You and has appeared in numerous films, television programs, commercials, and digital productions. Most recently, she has brought the story that began it all full circle, transforming Spirit Awakening from her signature stage work into her feature-film directorial debut.
