Public health Dentist, Dental Clinical Director, Camarena Health
Bio
Dr. Abhi Thakkar’s career reflects an evolving understanding of dentistry, from mastering the clinical care of individual patients to recognizing the broader systems and leadership required to improve oral health at scale.
After completing advanced clinical training in Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry at UCLA School of Dentistry, he began practicing in California’s Central Valley. Working with underserved communities became a defining chapter, expanding his focus beyond technical dentistry to access, communication, prevention, workforce development, and population health.
Dr. Thakkar joined Camarena Health in 2020 as a general dentist and advanced to Dental Clinical Director in 2022. While continuing patient care, his responsibilities grew to include multi-site leadership, quality improvement, and systems designed around patients and healthcare teams. As Adjunct Faculty at Western University of Health Sciences, he mentors future dentists and helps prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders.
His professional service has progressed from local to statewide and national leadership. He represents the dental profession and communities it serves in the ADA and CDA Houses of Delegates, serves in leadership roles within the California Dental Association and Fresno Madera Dental Society, and represents California’s District 13 on the American Dental Association New Dentist Committee.
His distinctions include Incisal Edge’s 40 Under 40, inclusion among the USA Dental Report 100 Key Opinion Leaders shaping dentistry in 2026, the UCSF Champion Provider Fellowship, and designation as a 2026 Federal Service Immersion Fellow. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, International College of Dentists, and Pierre Fauchard Academy, and an Incoming Fellow of the International Academy for Dental-Facial Esthetics.
For Dr. Thakkar, professional growth has meant continually widening the lens, from delivering excellent care to helping shape the people, systems, and policies that influence oral health. As his career evolves, that perspective remains anchored in a simple purpose: improving access, strengthening care, and creating lasting impact for patients and communities.
