Bio
Toyoaki (Toy), born in Fukui Prefecture, Japan, is a distinguished banking and consulting executive with decades of experience in financial services, risk management, and organizational transformation. He studied Bayesian statistics at the University of Tokyo, then joined the Industrial Bank of Japan (now Mizuho Bank). Selected as a bank-sponsored student at Carnegie Mellon University, Toy studied Financial Engineering, applying his mathematical expertise to develop innovative banking solutions. Upon returning to Japan, he established the bank’s risk management department and played a pivotal role in building its enterprise-wide risk management framework.
After 15 years in banking, Toy transitioned to consulting, providing advisory services to financial institutions, trading companies, and non-financial corporations for 27 years. He founded the Japanese consulting practices of PwC and EY (Financial Services) from scratch, helping grow these teams into multi-thousand-employee organizations. Toy has led large-scale business transformations and mentored countless professionals, many of whom have become industry leaders themselves.
A defining influence in Toy’s career was Katsuto Ohno, former president of Mizuho Daiichi Financial Technology, who taught him rigor, negotiation skills, perseverance, and the importance of transcending self-imposed limits. Toy’s career reflects a rare combination of technical expertise, strategic insight, and human leadership, leaving a lasting impact on Japanese banking and consulting.
