Gaurav Bhan Bhatnagar is the founder of The Folk Tales, a curated travel platform dedicated to immersive, sustainable, and culturally rich experiences across India. With an engineering background and nearly a decade in IT, Gaurav pivoted from a conventional corporate career to pursue his passion for world cultures, storytelling, and sustainable travel.
Founded in 2013, The Folk Tales initially operated as a home-stay booking platform but quickly evolved into offering curated village experiences emphasizing community engagement and sustainability. This approach earned the company the Outlook Responsible Tourism Gold Award for Best Cultural Immersion Operator in 2018. Over the years, the platform expanded to cover western, northern, central, and north-east India, offering wildlife excursions, artisan workshops, textile trails, culinary journeys, spiritual tours, and more, all anchored in storytelling and responsible tourism.
Gaurav has always prioritized family-friendly experiences and women’s safety, ensuring trips are enriching, memorable, and accessible. Through collaboration with local communities, The Folk Tales now operates in 14 Indian states, consistently earning 5-star reviews and cultivating a loyal clientele that returns year after year.
