Dr. Arun Oommen is a Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon at VPS Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre, Kochi, and visiting consultant at eight other hospitals. With over 4,100 complex brain and spine surgeries to his credit, he specializes in brain tumors, aneurysms, vascular malformations, head and spine injuries, keyhole disc surgeries, and rare anatomical cases. He is among the few surgeons in India experienced in brainstem and endoscopic surgeries.
Dr. Oommen has performed pioneering procedures, including Kerala’s first Synthes Codman PEEK 3D skull reconstruction, the largest skull reconstruction in Asia, and removal of a bullet from an 11-year-old patient’s brain, earning recognition for remarkable recoveries. He has contributed extensively to national and international research publications and has been honored at global forums for his work in neurosurgery.
Academically, he ranks among the top in MS and MCh programs, holds fellowships in Neurocritical Care and Neuroendoscopy, and is the first Indian neurosurgeon with a Doctorate in Hospital Administration.
Beyond medicine, he leads social initiatives, including Sehion Preshitha Sangam, feeding 1,500 destitutes daily, and Project Samaritan, training thousands in emergency trauma care. Dr. Oommen has received four honorary doctorates, the Bharat Gaurav Samman, and recognition as one of South India’s top neurosurgeons by Outlook Magazine.
